Beschorneria yuccoides

I have only grown Beschorneria for a few years, but they have become one of favourite garden plants. Native to Mexico these are both cold hardy, and heat/ drought tolerant making them a great choice for down here in Bournemouth. Despite the name yuccoides and the spiky appearance these plants are completely soft to the touch making them a great choice if you like the spiky look, but not so much the feeling. I grow mine in pots as I love the way the way the lower leaves cascade around the edges and at the start of this year a few of mine flowered as seen in the images. Sadly when this happens the mother plant dies and pups form around the base of the rosette which I hope to cultivate over the next few years and will have some smaller plants eventually available. Due to the supplier I would get these plants from no longer stocking them I only have a couple left that are an established size.

Beschorneria yuccoides ‘Flamingo Glow’

Of all the Beschorneria I grow, ‘Flamingo Glow’ is the standout for me. While these plants can have beautiful floral displays the evergreen variegated foliage of this variety is guaranteed to give year round interest. As with the standard yucciodes I love to grow these in pots to fully appreciate the scale and presence of the plant with its pendulous leaves elegantly drooping over the edge. I only have one of these left and not sure if / when i will be able to restock them.
