Crocosmia ‘Lucifer’

I have always loved crocosmia for its sword like foliage that works perfectly as a mid height plant in large herbaceous borders, or framing for the back of lower height borders. This variety is one of the more widely recognised with its impressive vivid red colour paired with its paler almost glowing orange throats its not hard to understand why. As crocosmia grows from corms, once established, division in early spring is ideal to prevent congestion and is a great way to further extend the spread and use of this plant. Whilst it takes many years for crocosmia to become a nuisance it should be managed appropriately to prevent it from spreading to areas it is not wanted, and keeping on top of removing unsightly leaves will make the overall appearance much more attractive. Whilst crocosmia is fairly fuss free and performs well in a large range of conditions it is important to bear in mind that large dry spells will significantly reduce flowering.

Crocosmia ‘Lucifer’

Crocosmia ‘Lucifer’, commonly known as Lucifer Montbretia, is a striking perennial celebrated for its vivid flowers and graceful, architectural foliage. The plant forms clumps of upright, sword-shaped green leaves that create strong structure and movement in the garden. In summer, tall branching stems rise above the foliage, carrying clusters of brilliant scarlet-red flowers that create a bold and eye-catching display. Crocosmia ‘Lucifer’ is well suited to borders, cottage gardens, containers, and cut flower planting, where its height and vibrant colour can be fully appreciated. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and is easy to grow once established. Hardy and low-maintenance, this reliable perennial is an excellent choice for adding bold colour, texture, and seasonal interest to garden spaces.
